Morgan State UniversityYucheng Lan  Academic Hydrogen and Fuel Cells  Dr. Yucheng Lan is a tenured full professor of Physics in the Department of Physics and Engineering Physics at Morgan State University, an urban HBCU with a goal of achieving a Carnegie research R1 doctoral university with very high research activity. He is the PI/co-PI of federate projects on renewable energy, sensors and 2D materials. His researches have been focused on renewable energy (thermoelectrics to convert thermal energy into electricity, photovoltaics to convert solar energy to electricity, photocatalytics and electrocatalytics to split water and degrade pollutants) and sensing (super-sensitive bio-/chemical sensors to detect individual atom/molecule, nano-thermosensors to permanently record thermal events at nanoscale, thermocouples to monitor super-high temperatures in harsh environments, and optical/electrochemical sensors using 2D materials to detect gas and ions). These researches have been financially sponsored by the Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Defense (DoD), and Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) etc. Various inorganic materials have been synthesized, characterized, and fabricated into bulks / devices in his group. The physical properties of materials and device performances have been auto collected through customized programming GUIs and analyzed by AI techniques. Recently his group is working on various gas sensors (including CO2 and hydrogen) and investigating high-melting materials used under extreme environments.
