| | itselectric is a Brooklyn-based electric vehicle (EV) charging station owner-operator (CSO), purpose-built for cities, with a mission to unlock access to clean vehicles for all urban drivers. Launched in 2021, itselectric was founded to solve an urgent challenge: no scalable charging solutions existed for the 70 million drivers across the U.S. who don’t have access to a private driveway or garage. If we want everyone to have access to electric mobility, we must provide drivers with convenient and affordable public charging options where they already park: the curb.
itselectric harnesses spare electrical capacity from nearby buildings to deploy low-footprint curbside Level-2 EV chargers. We create a behind-the-meter connection to property owners’ electrical panels to tap this excess capacity, thereby avoiding the barrier of grid limitations and the costly and time-consuming process of creating a new utility interconnection. Because of these significant savings, we take on the capital, installation, and operating costs ourselves, without requiring contributions from our municipal partners or our host properties -- and share 20% of the topline revenue with our property partners. Furthermore, we can afford to deploy in areas that don’t yet have high rates of EV ownership – where we know utilization will initially be low – thus breaking the chicken-or-the-egg cycle that is currently stifling EV adoption in urban areas.
Finally, our chargers are the first in North America to feature a bring-your-own charging cord configuration. Detachable cords not only streamline the charger’s profile; they reduce the maintenance required from damaged cords, which are the most commonly broken element of a public charger.
In our first two years of operations, we have achieved substantial traction, including publicly-sponsored deployments of six Level-2 chargers at the Brooklyn Army Terminal and Steiner Studios in New York City, as well as deployment at Newlab Detroit on the Michigan Central campus. The chargers produced for these installations were fabricated by Gyre9, a prototype manufacturer and EV charger production facility in Connecticut. Our chargers are powered by SWTCH software and accessible via the customer app.
Among other achievements, we recently won a $1.5 million grant from the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation to deploy 60 chargers in Justice40 communities in Alexandria, VA; Detroit, MI; Jersey City, NJ; and Los Angeles, CA. |

| Charging for Electric Micromobility | re:Charge is an independent provider of charging services to the electric micromobility industry.
As the use of micromobility expands and becomes increasingly electrified, many shared micromobility operators struggle with profitability due to the high cost of charging vehicles. In shared use systems, electrified fleets of bikes and scooters require frequent battery charging, a service that is currently performed by large teams of technicians and service vehicles. This is a costly process that creates profitability headwinds while also generating additional greenhouse gas emissions and traffic congestion, two problems micromobility was supposed to help solve. At the same time, private owners of electric micromobility vehicles lack access to publicly available charging infrastructure. As a result, charging is almost exclusively done in the home which creates friction that can discourage the use of more environmentally-friendly transportation options, and presents significant safety challenges.
To address these problems, re:Charge developed a universal wireless charging station designed as a shared resource for the electric micromobility industry. Using advanced wireless power transfer technology and intelligent power management software, our innovative design adapts to a range of vehicles and battery types ensuring a variety of shared electric micromobility operators can reap the operational and financial benefits of the re:Charge solution. The general public will also benefit from broader access to safe micromobility charging infrastructure outside the home as re:Charge stations are installed in apartment/office buildings, retail centers, schools and other popular destinations. |
